Erythromycinis a macrolide antibiotic used in various bacterial infections
Antibiotics- (Macrolides)
Erythromycin is prescribed for the treatment of:
• Respiratory tract infections
• Gastrointestinal infections
• Ear, nose, throat (ent) infections
• Pneumococcal infections (prophylaxis)
• Streptococcal infections
• Acne
• Eye infections
As advised by the physician.
According to the dosage forms the following routes of administartion are available:
• Intravenous
• Ophthalmic
• Oral
• Topical/Cutaneous
Erythromycin inhibits protein synthesis by irreversibly binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit thus blocking the transpeptidation or translocation reactions of susceptible organisms resulting in stunted cell growth.
Should be taken in patients having:
• Hypersensitivity
• Porphyria
• Hepatic impairment
• Arrhythmias
• Severe renal impairment
• Aggravate muscle weakness
Report to the physician if the patients are allergic to Erythromycin or any other drugs.

Report to the physician immediately if the patients are having any of these following symptoms:
• Rash
• Urticaria
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Gastrointestinal (gi) discomfort
• Ototoxicity
• Central neurotoxicity,
• Agranulocytosis
• Arrhythmias
• Pancreatitis
• Hepatotoxicity
• Cholestatic jaundice
• Raised serum transaminases
• Eosinophilia
If allergic to any food, please consult with the physician.
Consumption of alcohol is not advisable.
Pregnancy Category: B
Please consult with the physician during pregnancy and lactation.
Intravenous: Store between 15°C-25°C.
Ophthalmic: Store between 15°C-25°C.
Oral: Store between 15°C-25°C.
